about

Full-length record built in our Victoria apartment on Elford street.
Thank you Derek and Magnus.

Goose Lake’s creaky folk melodies don’t shine or shimmer like the waters of the Victoria coasts that the duo calls home; no, they sneak around corners, hide in shadows and whisper in the gentle breezes. Like the best quirky folk, Goose Lake balances beauty and melody (the piano, soaring vocals and hand percussion of “I Saw You in the Hall” draws me in every time) with unnerving, slightly unsettling darkness.

Littered with accordion, slow pulled strings, banjo, harmonies, finger picking, Landlords seems an odd title as these songs aren’t about who owns the building, but rather those that find comfort and build a home inside. The nine songs are intimate and even with the slight chill that sticks in the air, these 30-minutes are comforting.
